How to write a It resume: tips and templates

The document should be as short as possible. HR managers often decide within a few minutes whether or not the applicant will be invited for an interview. However, the following information must not be missing:

  • First the personal data. Please do not forget your email address and telephone number.
  • Vocational training or studies. State all degrees and provide evidence of them.
  • Further training, provided that it is important for the desired occupation.
  • IT skills, language skills, and special interests.

With all information, the applicant must always keep an eye on the goal of getting this position. Information that is not relevant for a job can be left out. However, there must be no gaps.

This is how the resume should be structured

If you want to write a resume often builds it up in a table, but strictly chronologically. They start with elementary school and end in the present. This is wrong. The qualification for which the interested party is applying is important for the position sought. This comes first. Often this is simply the last job. This is followed by vocational training and qualifications.

Further training is important. Here, too, it applies that these must be relevant to the desired job. If you are applying to be an IT system administrator and have obtained a hunting license, this is less important. You should always state language skills, as these are in demand in many areas.

Only state hobbies if they are important for the position you are aiming for and do not harm you. Above all, you need to operate it. If you list reading as a hobby, you should have a good answer to hand when asked what you enjoy reading.

Avoid making mistakes when writing a resume

The resume is the first work that you do for your future company. If there is a mistake in this, it has a particularly negative effect. To avoid mistakes, you should proceed according to the four-eyes principle. Have a second person proofread the resume. It is also useful if you print it out. With pen in hand, you’ll see more mistakes than just on the computer screen.

Check it several times to see if you have forgotten any important data. Online applications are often sent quickly and cannot be retrieved. Before you click “Submit”, please make sure that all information is available and that there are no errors in the CV.

After the application is before the interview

Once the file is with the company, you will usually receive a short message that the mail has arrived. If this does not happen, you can feel free to ask. Otherwise, wait a reasonable amount of time. You can expect a call from the company at any time. So always be friendly on the phone. A short interview on the phone is often the next step in the application process. This is followed by an invitation to an interview.
